Why the average run length is not the room distance
Cable follows pathways. A device that is 50 feet from the rack may require substantially more cable after vertical transitions, hallway routing, cable tray, rack dressing and service loops.
Always round box count up
If the project needs 2,050 feet and your boxes contain 1,000 feet, the practical order is three boxes—not 2.05 boxes. Extra footage also provides contingency for a failed pull or routing change.
Parallel pulls and box logistics
On larger projects, having multiple boxes can speed installation because several cables can be pulled together without repeatedly rewinding reels. Box count can therefore be an installation-planning decision as well as a footage calculation.

How much waste should I add?
Use your own historical jobs when possible. Service loops, routing changes and measurement uncertainty all contribute.
Does the calculator account for patch cords?
No. It estimates horizontal/install cable only unless you intentionally include patch-cord footage in your inputs.
Should I use 1,000-foot boxes for every cable type?
No. Change the box/reel size input to match the product you plan to purchase.
